Seven days, seven nights, Malaga vibrates to the sound of the marches. Streets turn into two shores of souls. Malagueños carrying big scupltures walk through the city centre streets. Sculptures carried on their shoulders with this so unique and unmistakeable paso of our land. Like a flow, the Nazareno accompanies, absorbed by his thoughts. With the face covered... with a candle, he makes an act of faith, he lives his penance. He walks in silence. He announces what is going to come!
Seven days, seven nights, Malaga feels the Holy Week. Each year, its magnificence is engraved in its memory.
The aim of the Strena Artis Prize is to award handcrafted works that have been presented to the media by the brotherhoods and that are displayed for the fist time during the Holy Week corresponding to the Prize's annual. This brand-new work can be pictorial, embroidered, designed, sculptured, restored, etc.
Furthermore, the prize money is totally allocated to a social welfare previously selected by the awarded brotherhood.
This Prize is also an appreciation of the work of any artists related to the sacred art. The Mención Artifex honours an artisan who is from or lives in our province.
The brotherhoods make a significant effort to keep and enrich the artistic heritage displayed to local and worldwide citizens. And beyond the devotions, they care about the disadvantaged ones.
Malaga is very proud of those men and women who dedicate part of their time to help and magnify the Semana Santa. Many tireless anonymous people from the civil society and others who are important personalities honouring Malaga and all its traditions. This involvement deserves an appreciation that the organization of Strena Artis has materialised with the Mención Especial Magna.
This window you opened visiting us aims to spread and promote our Holy Week.
